Volunteer Info
All volunteers of the organization must have current copies of their PA Criminal Background Check and PA Child Abuse Clearances on file. Both services below are provided free of charge to volunteers who have lived in Pennsylvania for the past 10 years. The FBI Fingerprint check has a fee, but is only required if you have not lived in PA for 10 years. All background checks can be completed online and all documents can be printed/saved immediately after the request is completed. Please complete the requirements of each and submit your documents in the volunteer section of your AYB account. If you need assistance with your clearances, please contact us.
PA Background Check - To apply for or obtain a copy of your PA Criminal Background Check, use the 'New Volunteer Record Check (Volunteers Only)' link. Enter your personal information and save a copy of your background check certificate. PA Criminal Background Checks are valid 5 years after the original request. If you have volunteered for for your child's school activities before, you may already have completed a PA Criminal Background Check. If so, save a copy of the form upload it to the Volunteer section of your AYB account. If your PA Criminal Background check is older than 5 years, you must apply for and submit a new copy.
PA Child Abuse Clearances - To apply for or obtain a copy of your your PA Child Abuse Clearances, use the 'Individual Login' link on the CWIS portal page. If you've applied for child abuse clearances in the past, you can access your CWIS account and print your clearance certificate. If you haven't applied in the past, you must first create an account using the CWIS portal and print your clearance certificate after entering your personal information. Child abuse clearances are valid for 5 years after original request. If you've obtained a child abuse clearance within the past 5 years, you don't have to apply for a new one but you do have to submit a copy of your clearance to your AYB account. If you have volunteered for for your child's school activities before, you may already have completed a PA Child Abuse Clearance. If so, simply save a copy of the form and upload it to the Volunteer section of your AYB account.
FBI Fingerprint - ONLY REQUIRED IF YOU HAVEN'T LIVED IN PA FOR THE PAST 10 YEARS. Volunteers needing clearances under the law that have lived in the state of Pennsylvania for less than ten consecutive years (including the current year) must obtain a fingerprint-based FBI Background Check. This background check carries a $23.25 fee. You must schedule an appointment and pay before you visit the fingerprinting site.
